This is one of the easiest Campfire Flat Bread recipes you will ever come across. You don’t need any specific measuring equipment except a spoon. There is no proving time or messing about trying to get the yeast to activate. Simply mix the ingredients in a bowl and add little splashes of water until you get a good dough consistency. Squeeze flat and cook over the fire. We cooked these on our Dutch Oven lids but you can use a frying pan, griddle, grill or even cook them directly on the embers. You can tell from the pictures that we usually cook a few of these but the recipe below is for one individual Campfire Flat Bread. We usually just use the one lid or pan too but we were feeding 12 people at our last Campfire Cooking Workshop.

Simplicity comes at a cost, this is quite a plain dough but with the right fillings or a little extra detail, it can be really tasty Campfire Flat Bread. We made these flatbreads to serve with these Mexican-Chicken Tinfoil Packs. We drizzled the campfire bread with a little melted butter just before serving to soften them up. For a little extra flavour, you could lightly fry these for an even more tasty and crispier flatbread. Add chopped chilli or herbs to your campfire bread dough or brush your finished flat breads with garlic butter.

If you make these simple Campfire Flat Breads, we’d love to see what you serve them with. Stuffed with mexican food is my favourite but they are also great to tear and dip in a curry! Send us photos to show how you got on with your Campfire Flat Breads!
Steps
1

Get your fire burning hot and down to its embers and place your Dutch Oven lid on upside down and allow to preheat. |

Mix the flour with a big pinch of sugar and a small pinch of salt. Add sprinkles of water and mix together with one finger (that way your whole hand doesn't become super sticky). Add little amounts of water and keep mixing until you have a firm dough. If you do make it too wet, just add a little more flour. It really won't take too much water so go easy. |

When you've a firm dough that's easy to handle, press it flat either in your floured hands or on a chopping board. |

Add a little oil to your lid if you want but we skipped that this time. Gently place your Campfire Flat Breads on the lid and let them cook gently. |

After a few minutes, flip the flat breads and cook on the opposite side until lightly charred and cooked through! |
