We are now members of Leave No Trace!

We at Campfire Kitchen are delighted to announce that we are now members of Leave No Trace Ireland.

Leave No Trace is an outdoor ethics programme which hopes to encourage people who use the outdoors to do respectfully. It seeks to promote responsible recreation through education, research and partnerships.

Leave No Trace is a programme which focuses on seven principals. All of them are fairly straight forward but when put into practice properly, you can ensure that future generations can enjoy the same mountains, forests, rivers or beaches that you do!

LNT Ireland’s vision is to “grow a nation of outdoor advocates to put the Leave No Trace Ireland principles into action.” This is certainly a vision we can get behind. We started Campfire Kitchen to encourage Scouts to take more responsibility over their meal planning on camp. We think it’s important that we encourage them to do it in a way that isn’t to the detriment of others trying to enjoy the same outdoors.

Lots of these are really important to what we do here on Campfire Kitchen but perhaps most important is number seven.

Manage the Effects of Fire.

We’d love to hear how you make sure you keep the areas you camp in pristine. Stoves are great and all but we love a fire cooked meal. I think a great future post for Campfire Kitchen would be share all of the great practice which goes on out there.
