Peppermint Hot Chocolate is one of everyone’s go-to winter warmer treats. Hot chocolate is usually a winner on a cold night but this luxurious, peppermint version is incredibly easy and perfect for warming up the wee ones by the campfire this Christmas Season.

The plain chocolate is made creamy and rich with the milk and cream. The peppermint candy cane makes up for the lack of sugar so please give it a go before you swap it for milk chocolate. If you prefer it sweeter had a teaspoon of sugar to each mug. If someone in your group doesn’t like peppermint, of course you could add a teaspoon of sugar to their mug to sweeten it a bit. Don’t be counting calories… It’s Christmas!

The important thing to remember when making this, is not to let anything boil. While the milk is heating up, chop up your plain or dark chocolate but keep your eye on that pot!

When heating the milk, be careful not to let it boil

This recipe is probably practical for tripling or quadrupling but for numbers bigger than, to be honest, I’d be getting a big pot of Cadbury’s Drinking Chocolate on. So think of this Christmas Peppermint Hot Chocolate as a gourmet treat for those who you really want to spend this festive season with, by the fire.

Serve your Peppermint Hot Chocolate in cups but beware, they’ll get hot so either have gloves on or use a cup with a handle! Stick the Peppermint Candy cane in and let people stir it themselves allowing as much to dissolve as they want.

Stir with the candy cane to let the flavour dissolve into the hot chocolate

Whoever you’ve decided to treat with this indulgent hot drink, I hope they enjoy it and that you make some wonderful Christmas memories to look back on.

      TIP: Just for Adults!

If everyone is over 18, spike your hot chocolate with shot of Irish Whiskey or Cream Liqueur

If there are only adults around your campfire, consider reducing the amount of cream and adding a shot of Whiskey or Irish Cream Liqueur, such as Coole Swan or Bailey’s, to your Peppermint Hot Chocolate for an even more ‘Merry’ drink.
